Galearis rotundifolia f. beckettii Roundleaf Orchid

Go OrchidsThis northern orchid had long been on the top of my want-to-see list. They did not disappoint when I had the opportunity to photograph them in Minnesota during the 2014 Native Orchid Conference. Although the flower usually has pink petals and a spotted lip, I found several plants with pure white flowers.

  • Corallorhiza maculata var. ozettensis Ozette Coralroot

Corallorhiza maculata var. ozettensis Ozette Coralroot

Go OrchidsDuring the summer of 2006, I took courses on Whidbey Island, Washington, where I discovered this unspotted Spotted Coralroot growing near a trail! The Ozette variety had been described in 2001 but was known from a single location on the Olympic Peninsula. My discovery extended its known range, and the photos I took were published in an orchid journal.
