The copy-editing is now finished on the manuscript for our new field guide, and we finally have an expected publication date of August, 2026!
Native Orchids of the United States and Canada is a field guide to the more than 200 native orchids (and a few introduced) found across the United States and Canada. From rarer species to orchids that even the casual hiker might encounter, this comprehensive field guide includes detailed species accounts with distribution maps, conservation status, and ecological information. Visual guides will help readers new to orchid taxonomy, in addition to the traditional dichotomous keys. The 384 page guide - a companion to the Go Orchids website - features beautiful orchid photographs by many talented photographers, including co-author Hal Horwitz, who inspired the creation of the guide and provided the majority of the photos.
The book is now available via pre-order on the Cornell Press website, or by scanning the QR code at right. Proceeds from sales of the book will support NAOCC's orchid conservation work.
We greatly appreciate the contributions of the many photographers and orchid experts who assisted with the development of this book. We also extend our deep gratitude to Helen Horwitz, for her unflagging support for this project!
