Orchids: Hidden Stories of Groundbreaking Women

By: Jay O'Neill

This February, Smithsonian Gardens and the U.S. Botanic Gardens opens their 22nd orchid exhibition, “Orchids: Hidden Stories of Groundbreaking Women.” This unique exhibit unearths stories of women who have enriched our understanding and appreciation of orchids. Despite their remarkable achievements in art, botanical illustration, orchid cultivation and scientific discovery, many of the featured women have not received the recognition they deserve. This exhibit highlights these unsung horticultural heroines and solidifies their ongoing influence on orchid collections. Visitors can explore the exhibit and view hundreds of living orchids from Smithsonian Gardens and the U.S. Botanic Garden collections in the Kogod Courtyard, adjacent to the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery. The exhibit runs through April 24, 2022. Learn more…
